Fish And Chicken, Fish And Chips, Grays, Thurrock, Essex
Feeling a little peckish for lunch, I decided to stop off at a fish and chip shop which was recommended to me prior to our visit. Although the frontage of the shop was a little off-putting and could have done with a face lift, I was there to try some food and drink so proceeded to cross the threshold and order something to eat! Although the signage and frontage outside the shop could have done with a wipe down, fortunately the interior of Fish And Chicken was clean, tidy and presentable. Considering it was lunchtime on Good Friday, this fish and chip shop was surprisingly empty. Having said that, it wasn’t long before I was served.

The gentleman working at the time proceeded to place my order, namely a couple of large cods and a large portion of chips. As the gent battered this fish, the chips were put into the fryer. With newspapers on the counter to read while you wait, I began to get rather hungry as the fryer crackled and scent of fresh fish and chips filled the room. It wasn’t long before the food was ready and being wrapped so added a couple.of soft drinks to the order. The bill was rung up which was reasonably priced and wrapped well to keep the food warm for the journey home. When I got home I was pleasantly surprused to discover two pieces of perfectly cooked, fresh battered cod and a generous portion of chips. One large portion was more than enough for two people so shared the chips between us.

The fish was fresh and the batter was perfectly crisp, though fairly light which went down a treat. Before leaving Fish And Chicken the lunchtime diners proceeded to enter the shop, each olacing similar orders, which is always a good sign when trying a new restaurant or takeaway in pastures new. I can recommend the food at Fish And Chicken and would indeed encourage you to do so should you fancy an inexpensive snack or a reasonably priced fish and chip supper when in Thurrock. A decent takeaway with friendly staff and a warm welcome, a trustworthy stop off for people of Grays, Essex and beyond!
