Jia Mo, Chinese Streetfood, Brighton, East Sussex

It’s not often that it’s a good thing to say that there’s not much to write home about… but Jia Mo is an exception to the rules! In their own words, “the menu’s very simple, but the flavour’s very complex”, and that, they were!

This Chinese streetfood restaurant caught my eye when taking a walk along the promenade in Brighton. Tucked away down a side road off the promenade sits the gem that is, Jia Mo.

After crossing the road and taking a peak at the menu, I entered the restaurant, to be greeted by an enthusiastic chap and his family. When I asked to see a menu, he simply pointed at the wall behind him, where there were two handwritten dishes, and a gleaming smile!

“This is our menu”, he proceeded to add, followed by another burst of laughter! The gentleman’s passion, coupled with the delightful scents coming from the working kitchen to the right of him drew me in, and was offered a sample of each dish prior to deciding which one to have.

With the option of noodles or a pulled pork bun, I was torn between what to go for… so, in true form, ordered both, and proceeded to eat while walking along the promenade.

Beautifully seasoned and presented, the food was fresh, simple and authentic. A real find… and a real treat, no less!

If I was to recommend anything from the menu, I’d vouch for everything; literately! Get both, you wont be disappointed, and at £5 a dish, it’s fantastic value for money too!

Unfortunately the original photos I took at Jia Mo were lost, so went back there to order some more food and retake some pictures to do this place justice. However, Jia Mo is closed on a Wednesday, so was gutted to discover a closed sign upon arrival. I shall be back! 😉👌

That said, Jia Mo is a cracking family-run takeaway (with seating), so go ahead and treat yourself to a dish (or two) if you’re in or around Brighton.

Jia Mo don’t have a website at the moment, but you can order on Deliveroo, or better still, pop in for a bite!
