The Globe Inn, Pub, Wells, Somerset

The Globe Inn, Pub, Wells, Somerset was a place I went to check out based on a recommendation. However, when I got there I noticed that the pub was under new management. Having spent the day in Wells visiting the beautiful cathedral and shops, I decided to grab some food and drink. After being pleasantly surprised with my previous visit to Somerset’s first Micropub just around the corner from there, my expectations were high and unfortunately weren’t met. Nevertheless, I thought I would test the waters and grab a bite.

After introducing myself to the new landlord, he let me sample a couple of ales before deciding which one to accompany my meal. With three cask beers on draft, namely Cheddar Ales’ Potholder, one from the Great Western Brewery (GWB) Maiden Voyage Best Bitter and a premium award winning flagship amber ale from the Bath brewery Gem.

Although the food was reasonable and good value for money, I expect it to be hot. Both dishes came out as if they had been quickly nuked in the microwave but had cold spots throughout both dishes. After sending them back once, they came out edible, but far from piping! That said, the quality of the food was reasonably priced and the friendly new landlord promptly dealt with running our food back to the kitchen on both occasions, without fuss and with a smile.

With several items off the menu and / or out of season, I decided to go for one of their Winter Dishes, the Hot Pot. A delicious, well balanced dish, once heated! The Globe Inn pub in Wells, Somerset has a games room upstairs and a beautifully decorated back room. Although the pub has potential and had a friendly crowd and staff on board, there were a few teething problems which i’m sure will improve moving forward. The new landlord had only just taken on the pub so could see past the ‘cool dinner’.

The Globe Inn, pub, Wells, Somerset has a small but good selection of draft cask ales, with a range of local ciders, beers, wines and spirits. Worth a look if you’re in town.
