Hoof, Burger Restaurant, Rye, East Sussex
Hoof, Burger Restaurant, Rye, East Sussex is one of the best places I have had a burger and chips at. Hoof in Rye takes the humble pub classic back to basics, introducing subtle tweaks that offered locally sourced produce in rustic surroundings by friendly staff and a quality chef. Hoof takes their burger and chips to a whole new level, taking pride in knowing exactly where their produce comes from. From farm to plate, Hoof is a must go to burger restaurant. You won’t be disappointed!

Simplicity is the key here, with exceptional cuts of quality beef and quality potatoes which are farmed four miles up the road at the owners farm. Run by local farmer Oliver Furnival, Hoof serves quality beef and potatoes from his own farm just four miles away on Romney Marsh. Although locally sourced produce in independant restaurants isn’t a new concept, Hoof takes this ideology one step further with the farmer taking the helm.
A rustic interior sets a chilled environment to enjoy a burger and chips in, whether you’re having a quiet lunch or catching up with friends and family over an evening meal, Hoof ticks all the boxes… and more!

While perusing the menu, I proceeded to order myself a 500ml bottle of Romney Marsh beer, which is also brewed over the road from the restaurant. Hoof had a couple o bottled beers available from the local brewery including an amber ale, and a slightly richer xxxxx which I found accompanied the perfectly cooked burgers.
I do love small menus as they usually reflect a quick turnaround of quality fresh produce and Hoof was no exception. Humbling boasting produce which has travelled less then four miles up the road, the quality of the produce is where the journey begins… then the chef’s skills come into play. As we all know, ultimately, the the chef can make or break a dish, regardless of the quality of the produce. At Hoof burger restaurant, the two complimented each other perfectly! After speaking to the chef and appraising his and the restaurants work, it soon became apparent that Hoof had quality in every area of the brand and restaurant. A chilled restaurant with a super cool chef! *Doffs hat*

Usually a small menu (aside from quality reasons which i’ve already touched upon in the previous paragraph), the menu ultimately had burger, and chips on. Easy choice, right? Wrong! After sipping my beer reading through the write up for each burger, I was still undecided as to which one to order! All sounded so good, with the write-ups making my mouth water without seeing a single burger or chips!
Fortunately, it appeared I was not alone as the menu conviently had an option called ‘Sliders’. Sliders complied of three, decent sized, slightly smaller burgers consisting of three from their menu, namely the ‘Smokey’, the Chilli Jam and the chicken breast burger. Wow! All served in brioche buns, all were delicious in their own right!
With two different cuts of chips, chunky (the chuckiest i’ve ever seen in my life), and sinny chips. Both of which were cut from the same potatoes from farmer (and owner) Oliver Furnival’s farm just four mioes up the road. Both were great, but would recommend the chunky chips if in doubt.
