George and Dragon, Pub and Restaurant, Headcorn, Kent

The gorgeous George (and Dragon), is a pub and restaurant in Headcorn, Kent. Sat in the heart of Kent, the George and Dragon is fortunate to be nestled between some of Kents best producers, which is something the pub is most proud of and embrace in both food and drink menus.

The George and Dragon, pub and restaurant in Headcorn, Kent is a quintessentially British pub, steeped in tradition and very much at the heart of the community. So-much-so, that they have a bakery and conserves section of the pub serving local bakes and jams from the bakery next door! Perfect.

On my last visit to the George and Dragon pub in Headcorn, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality they had, not only behind the bar, but throughout the pub.

The atmosphere was welcoming, with lines of hops framing the vintage decor and quaint seated areas to eat and drink at throughout the pub. There’s also a gorgeous potted garden through to the rear, which is particularly pleasant in the summer months.

The George and Dragon, pub and restaurant in Headcorn, Kent boast a fantastic selection of locally sourced cask ales too. One of which was called the Beulter from the Brumaison Brewery in Marden when I visited, and would go as far as to say that it was one of the nicest pints i’ve had of late!

I also noticed (while at the bar), that they have a fantastic food menu too! I tried an Anno Gin from the local distillery in Marden while I was here. When in Rome!

Their flagship multi-award winning gin incorporates Kentish botanicals such as hops, samphire and local florals to create an outstanding gin with a unique flavour of Kent.

Inspired by their love of craft spirits, lifelong scientists Andy and Norman decided to use their expertise and passion to found Anno in 2011, bringing a proud tradition of gin making back to their home county of Kent for the first time in over 200 years!

Imparting their fondness for science and experimentation into each bottle to bring you some of the best flavours that the Garden of England has to offer. This was the first time I have seen this gin, so was intrigued and simply had to try it!

A lovely drop, infused with Kentish botanicals… what’s not to like? Best served garnished with samphire and lime, but is also great served on it’s own.

The menu featured a number of fabulous dishes and, the food that came out (although it was for other guests), was presented beautifully and smelt great! Unfortunately I’d not long eaten, but look forward to sampling their food next time.

The menu sourced its produce from local farms, dairies and producers from the local area which, in my opinion, always tastes better than food that has traveled long distances.

One dish that caught my eye was their award winning steak and ale pie, with the beef (and pork) being sourced from Biddenden, which is just up to the road from the pub.

With locally baked bread, pastries and cakes from the bakery next door to the pub, and conserves made by a jam maker in Staplehurst (also up the road), their was a romanticism about this pub that attracted me to it from the moment I walked through the door.

With friendly staff and locals enjoying good food, drink and conversation while I was there, this pub is a real gem for the community to not only meet up socially, but also for local producers to sell their produce… without it travelling further than a mile or two.

The George and Dragon in Headcorn is a beautiful pub, steeped in history and tradition, with quality produce throughout. I can highly recommend this pub as a good all rounder. Whether you fancy an afternoon tea, a spot of lunch, or a quiet evening meal, rest assured that the George (and Dragon) is a perfect place to lay your hat! It’s also a dog friendly pub too.
