Karin Pfeiff-Boschek earning a crust with pie art

German based baker, Karin Pfeiff-Boschek, is taking the world by storm with her exquisite pie decoration, taking what we now know as pie art, to a whole new level.

Karin Pfeiff-Boschek posts pictures of her pies on Instagram, then donates them to her friends, family and charities, with her social media following getting hotter than the oven she bakes her cakes in! So much so, I thought I’d get to the bottom of her cakes, and the lady behind the bakes.

From her decorative dough decorations, to her buttery pastry featuring rosettes, hearts, leaves, vines, berries, braids, stars, paisley, perforations, diamonds and dots, Karin is whisking up a stir in the baking world.

Her traditional approach to baking stems from her own kitchen, where family traditions are central to her bakes. Pfeiff-Boschek’s background in textiles and design are evident in the decoration of her cakes, and with the upmost intricacy, and exceptional finishes, many view Karin as the next (unorthodox) Mary Berry.

Karin writes that she had always liked her husband’s apple, blueberry, pumpkin and rhubarb pies, and, Karin therefor saw the crust as a canvas for her work.

When Karin was asked about her interest in pies, she mentions the saturated cake design market, and saw a gap in the market with sprucing up pies visually and artistically. Karin goes on to say that she treats the dough as a sculptor treats the marble… perhaps not quite as violently.

Karin says that with time and patience, a pie can become a piece of art… but it’s not a piece of cake! Karin can spend up to 10 hours preparing stencils alone, let alone baking the dough. A labour of love which continues to turn pie enthusiasts heads, and ones of the art world!
