Best of British Gourmet Picnic by British Fine Foods at Radio 2 Festival, Live from Hyde Park, London

With the Summer nearing an end, what better way to mark the end of the season than with a picnic. Best of British Gourmet Picnic by British Fine Foods at Radio 2 Festival Live from Hyde Park, London were at this years BBC Radio 2 event.

This weekend saw Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan reunite for the first time in years, singing especially for you (and several others)… fifty thousand in fact!

With other acts performing, including Rita Ora, All Saints, Manic Street Preachers, Lenny Kravitz, The Shires, and The Band of Love, there were a fair few who turned up to see their favourite artists perform.

As great as the music was, the main event surely was the Best of British Gourmet Picnic. The picnic included a beautiful assortment of quality British produce, with a handpicked selection of the very best artisan goodies from Award Winning producers and presented in a disposable picnic box with recyclable cutlery, plates, glasses and napkins, with the menu comprising a starter, main course, pudding and a cheese course. With a mouthwatering menu and many tasty treats on offer, without further ado, let’s take a look at the menu!

Starter

Roast Smoked Salmon Pâté

An exquisite light creamy pâté with juicy roasted salmon giving a wonderfully smooth, smokey flavour from Royal Warrant Holder Inverawe Smokehouses. The smoking process takes place in traditional slow curing brick klins over real oak log fires with no additives or preservatives, and definitely no shortcuts.

Mini Scottish Oatcakes

The perfect accompaniment for the Roast Smoked Salmon Pâté. Wooleys of Arran have beenmaking Oatcakessince the middle of the nineteenth century.

Main Course

Chicken and Ham Pie

This outstanding pie won Gold at the British Pie Awards. Tender chicken breast and ham together with a light blend of mixed herbs. Absolutely delicious. George Adams and Dick Harlow were the founding fathers of rival pork pie businesses in Lincolnshire. A hundred years later they are now united under the new brand, Adams and Harlow, led by their mutual granddaughters Mary and Lizzi.

Pork and Mustard Pie

A delicious Pork Pie with the addition of Wholegrain mustard to create a wonderful combination of flavours. Produced by Adams and Harlow in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire Scotch Egg

Lovingly hand made with the finest quality ingredients, and seasoned to perfection.

Pork and Bramley Apple Scotch Egg

A delicious Scotch Egg made with the finest ingredients including Bramley Apple.

A Very British Chicken

A mouthwatering dish that has been especially created for British Fine Foods Picnics. Poached chicken breast in a parsley, caper and lemon mayonnaise with watercress and pulled ham hock. Produced in Gingers Kitchen in West Sussex.

Summer Super Salad

Quinoa, red cabbage, broccoli, curly kale, edamame beans and pumpkin seeds, zesty tahini and honey dressing, produced by Gingers Kitchen in West Sussex.

Charlotte Potatoes in a Creamy Grain Mustard and Honey Mayonnaise Dressing

Ideal for a Summer Picnic, produced by Gingers Kitchen in West Susses.

The starter is served with two artisan bread rolls and butter.

Pudding

Baked Chocolate and Salad Caramel Tart

Buttery, vanilla pastry filled with a layer of salted caramel and a rich chocolate ganache. Produced by Zuidam, an outstanding artisan producer, a specialist in patisserie and breads.

Apricot and Raspberry Frangipane Tart

Vanilla pastry, filled with a smooth almond frangipane with apricots and raspberries throughout the mix, finished with an apricot glaze. Again, produced by Zuidam.

Cheese Course

Best of British Artisan Cheese and Accompaniments

2 x Mature English Cheddar Portions
2 x Finest English Stilton Portions
Accompanied with Peter’s Yard Crispbreads and Chutney.
